Digitalisation always comes with responsibility. Document scanners and data capture systems often form the first step in a digital processing chain. They capture information, generate digital data and are directly connected to their users’ IT infrastructure.

The USB interface in particular demonstrates why trust cannot begin only with servers, networks or cloud services. A connected device, its firmware, its drivers and its software are all part of the technical chain of trust.

We therefore consider our products to be part of our customers’ Trusted Infrastructure.

For us, this means:

For the shareholders and management of DATAWIN GmbH, compliance with legal, regulatory and ethical requirements is not something that can simply be delegated. It is an integral part of our corporate responsibility.

Security does not begin with a single software function – and it does not end at the USB port. It begins with the organisation, its people, development processes, the selection of components and suppliers, and ultimately with how consistently a company accepts and fulfils its responsibilities.

Compliance by Conviction

We do not regard laws, regulatory requirements and binding standards as mere formalities. We consider compliance with them a fundamental part of responsible business conduct – towards our customers, employees, business partners, society and the environment.

DATAWIN GmbH is committed to lawful, responsible and ethical conduct. Our Code of Conduct defines binding principles for our day-to-day activities and provides a common framework for employees, management and our cooperation with business partners.

These principles include integrity and lawful conduct, fair competition, responsible handling of information and corporate assets, the protection of people and the environment, as well as clear expectations towards our business partners and supply chains.
For us, compliance does not mean following the rules only when someone is watching.

It is part of our corporate culture. For our customers, this means: You know who you are doing business with. Not only from a technical perspective, but also from an organisational and corporate one.

Cybersecurity and Regulatory Responsibility

The requirements placed on digital products, their manufacturers and the associated supply chains are increasing worldwide.

In Europe, NIS2 and other cybersecurity and product regulations are creating significantly higher expectations regarding risk management, supply chains, technical security and corporate responsibility.

Comparable requirements and security standards are developing worldwide – particularly where companies, public authorities and operators of critical or sensitive infrastructures are reassessing their technological dependencies and cyber risks.

DATAWIN GmbH has been addressing these issues long before individual regulations came into force. Security, controlled processes and the long-term control of our technology are integral parts of our product and corporate strategy.

Our ambition therefore goes beyond formally complying with individual regulatory requirements. Our products are designed to integrate responsibly and sustainably into our customers’ security and compliance structures. Because a professional security concept does not end at the USB port.

Hardware, electronics, firmware, drivers, software, components, updates, supply chains and ultimately the manufacturer itself are all part of an organisation’s architecture of trust. For us, cybersecurity is therefore not a single product feature. It is a matter of the entire value chain.

Quality by System – Since 2005

At DATAWIN GmbH, quality is not a single process step or a final inspection. It is an integral part of our entire value chain – from the initial product idea and development through engineering and procurement to manufacturing, sales and service.

Since 2005, the relevant areas of DATAWIN GmbH have been continuously certified according to ISO 9001. Our quality management system forms part of our Integrated Management System. Processes are structured, responsibilities are clearly defined and requirements are systematically managed.

For us, this is explicitly not about having a certificate hanging on the wall. Our management system has to work in everyday business – and it has to be lived.

The risk-based approach of our quality management system helps us identify potential risks and opportunities at an early stage, assess them and address them with appropriate measures. At the same time, we continuously review and improve our processes.
Because quality does not begin with final inspection.
It begins with planning and is lived every day.

Quality Management System

DATAWIN GmbH operates a quality management system certified according to ISO 9001:2015. The certified scope covers the development, manufacture, sales and service of hardware and software for data capture devices, optical mark readers, scanners and mobile data capture devices.

This ensures that essential areas of our value chain are covered by a systematic quality management system.
Clearly defined processes and responsibilities, a risk-based approach and continuous improvement provide the foundation for the consistently high quality of our products and services.

Responsibility for the Environment and Resources

Technology must not only be powerful. It must also make sense in the long term. That is why we do not consider quality, environmental responsibility and sustainable corporate development separately.

Since 2014, the environmental management system of DATAWIN GmbH has been certified according to ISO 14001 and forms part of our Integrated Management System.

We systematically identify and assess the significant environmental aspects of our activities, products and services and continuously work to improve our environmental performance.

Our approach includes resource-conscious manufacturing in Germany and Europe, efficient transport routes and durable, energy-efficient and low-maintenance products.

One particularly important aspect for us is the service life of our systems. Our document scanners and data capture systems are capital goods. They are not designed for just a few product cycles, but for many years of professional use. That is why maintainability, repairability and future development are already taken into consideration during product development and engineering.
Upgrade and refurbishment concepts can further extend the useful life of our systems and help keep resources in circulation for as long as possible.

For us, sustainability does not mean replacing products as quickly as possible – it means using them effectively for as long as possible.
We also consider packaging to be part of this responsibility. We work to limit packaging materials to what is necessary for product protection and safe transportation, use recyclable materials and, wherever technically feasible, favour paper- and cardboard-based solutions.

At the same time, we take the increasing European requirements regarding packaging, recyclability, material use and the circular economy into account at an early stage in our processes.
For us, environmental responsibility therefore ends neither at the factory gate nor when a product leaves production.

ISO 14001 – Certified Environmental Managementt

The environmental management system of DATAWIN GmbH has been certified according to ISO 14001:2015 since 2014. The certification forms part of our Integrated Management System and connects environmental management with our quality processes and operational procedures.

Within our environmental management system, we systematically identify and assess relevant environmental aspects and derive measures to continuously improve our environmental performance. In doing so, we combine economic performance, technological longevity and the responsible use of natural resources.

Responsibility Across the Entire Value Chain

The quality and security of a product are not determined by its design alone. What matters is the entire chain: Development. Electronics. Procurement. Manufacturing. Firmware. Software. Drivers. Quality Assurance. Logistics. Service. Spare Parts. Updates. People.

That is why we look beyond our own processes to the selection of and cooperation with suppliers and business partners. Wherever technically, economically and qualitatively appropriate, we rely on long-term partnerships, transparent and traceable supply chains, and regional or European sourcing. This reduces dependencies, shortens communication paths and helps us maintain quality, environmental, security and compliance requirements over many years.

Our customers should not have to wonder under what conditions their technology was created, who actually developed it or who will take responsibility when a problem occurs. That is what a manufacturer is there for. And that is exactly the responsibility we accept.

Made in Germany – More Than a Statement of Origin

For our DATAWIN and InoTec brands, development and manufacturing in Germany and Central Europe are not a nostalgic choice of location. They are part of our technology strategy.

Short distances between development, electronics, engineering, manufacturing, quality assurance and service enable a high degree of vertical integration and technical control. Issues can be resolved directly between the responsible teams. Insights gained from manufacturing and service flow directly back into development and engineering.

At the same time, essential knowledge about our products remains within our company and our own development and manufacturing structures. This is particularly important for durable capital goods. Because our responsibility does not end with delivery.

We want to be able to provide our customers with spare parts, service, technical expertise and further development options for many years to come. For us, technological sovereignty begins with the manufacturer itself.

Depending on the product, model and target market, our products comply with further relevant legal, technical and regulatory requirements.

The corresponding certificates, declarations of conformity and technical documentation are made available transparently by us or our partners.

ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 are important objective evidence of our work. But our ambition goes beyond that.

It is about whether a manufacturer truly understands and controls its technology. Whether it knows what is inside its hardware, firmware, software and drivers. Whether it takes responsibility for its products. Whether its processes are transparent and traceable. Whether laws and standards are complied with. Whether information is protected. Whether supply chains remain manageable. Whether products receive long-term support. And whether a company will still stand behind tomorrow what it delivers today.
